What are the aims of It’s All Live!™ Summer Program?
The aims of the camp are as follows:
- To increase the skills of each applicant by at least 15%
- To increase retention of materials learned during the school year
- To help student who have fallen behind catch up
- To explore career possibilities
Who are potential students?
The It’s All Live!™ Summer Program is especially designed for students who could benefit from a boot camp approach to math or reading. It is an opportunity for the child who did not learn well in the primary grades, and continues to get farther and farther behind each year.
Because math and reading are built on stepping stones of information, our interventions allow the students to go back as far as he needs to go to learn each mile stone, and to learn it well. Each child will have the opportunity to begin at the lowest level, and work (and learn) his/her way to the top and beyond.
Students who wish to enrich their math or reading skills may also be candidates for It’s All Live!™ Summer Program. They will be able to advance beyond their present grades or to specialize in particular areas of interest.
Where and what will be taught?
Via computer, each lesson will be taught in the child’s home. Children who do not have computers will be given a computer and internet to use for the duration of the program.
To increase math/reading scores, the assigned tutor will visit and tutor each child in the privacy and safety of their own home for four days a week, one hour per day.
On the fifth day, our math/reading students will explore career possibilities and/or take field trips that will increase their knowledge base.
In addition, each student will be given an orientation to test taking skills. Often students score lower on examinations due to their poor skill level of taking tests. Our graduates will take with these essential test taking skills with them back into the classroom, which will help them in all school subjects.
Why the It’s All Live!™ Summer Program is needed?
Despite a widely held belief that U.S. students do well in mathematics (and reading) in grade school but decline precipitously in high school, a new study comparing the math (and reading) skills of students in industrialized nations finds that U.S. students in 4th and 8th grade perform consistently below most of their peers around the world and continue that trend into high school.
